Photo shoot

My photo shoot will take place after christmas break in one or a few of my media lessons the reason for this is because it is the most convenient place for the Mise en Scene to take place. I will bring the props and costumes in so that the photo shoot can take place straight away. During the photo shoot i might slightly alter the Mise en Scene to improve the quality of the photos this will be depending on how the photos turn out following the plan i have created. If anything is altered during the shoot i will document the changes in one of my future blogs.

Mise en Scene-Camera Angles

For my main image i will use a close up or a medium close up as all of my style models use this shot. This shot is good as it allows the audience to clearly see the actors facial expressions which can reveal the genre of magazine also through the use of any aspect of Mise en Scene.

Mise en Scene-Props

The props i have chosen to use in the main image consists of a bass guitar and an electric guitar i have chosen these props as they are an essential part to the Heavy Metal genre. I have chosen to include them as this will attract the target audience because they reveal the genre.

Mise en Scene-Actors

The main actor for my main images will be Jordan Lloyd a fellow media studies student i have chosen him as my main actor as he is also a fan of the Heavy Metal genre so i think he will already have knowledge on what a good magazine of this genre should include giving me an advantage.

Mise en Scene-Costumes

The costume for my actors will consist of a leather jacket with jeans and a black top. I have chosen this costume as this follows the genres codes and conventions as leather jackets are related to metal and rock and roll.

Mise en Scene-Location

The location of my main image will be set on the school premises. This is because it is the most convenient place to gather the actors and props. there will be no specific location around the school as the background will be cut out of the image this is to allow space for clear text or other pictures or graphics also promotional banners.

Findings Of Research

From the research i have produced i have found out a lot about what good magazines must include for each genre this allows me the advantage to use these unique techniques for each genre and apply it to my choice in music magazine. I have learnt the price of magazines reveal the target audience or social class the magazine is aimed at. I have also learned that for each genre type there are key techniques to follow in order for the magazine to succeed in reaching its target audience. Through this research i learnt that presentation is important as this makes the magazine eye catchy and is also a technique that can show the genre of the magazine.

Through the research i have produced i have come to the conclusion i will produce a Heavy Metal magazine as this is the genre that interests me most and i also think i know more techniques, information and have had previous experience by buying magazines of this genre before this allows me more of an advantage in making a successful magazine. The price of my magazine will be £3.
This reveals the magazines target audience which is from the age range of 16-25. I have chosen this because the price tag of my star model is £4.75 which reveals the target audience who is working class adults. I have chosen to lower the price of my magazine compared to the style model because i am aiming at a slightly younger audience. The magazine is aimed at both genders as the genre type i have decided to create has a multi sex audience. My magazine will include bands such as Metallica, Machine Head Slayer, Megadeth and many more bands of the heavy metal genre.

           NME
New Musical Express (NME) is a British music journalism magazine published since 1949. It is largely associated with rock, alternative and indie music. It was the first British paper to include a singles chart, in the edition of 14 November 1952. In the 1970s it became the best-selling British music newspaper. During the period 1972 to 1976, it was particularly associated with gonzo journalism (self-involved reporting), then became closely associated with punk rock through the writings of Julie BurchillPaul Morley and Tony Parsons. It started as a music newspaper, and gradually moved toward a magazine format during the 1980s and 1990s, changing from newsprint in 1998.

Reggae

This magazine belongs to the reggae genre.

this magazine uses the main image and colour scheme to promote the genre as the colours are related to Rastafarianism which reggae is a big part of. this allows the genre to be easily recognisable and eye catchy which attracts fans of this genre.

Music Magazine Reasearch

For my style models i have tried to vary the different genres of magazine so i can explore the key features and differences between the music magazine genres which i can further use to adapt and adjust in my own magazine. This will allow me to follow the key conventions of a music magazine as well as to present conventions that are specific to certain music genres. The reason behind each music genre using different techniques for the style of magazine is to clearly establish the genre from the first glance upon the front cover, this attracts the target audience which is the fans of the particular genre. The second reason is so all the different magazines do not follow the same format.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover

Prelim Contents Page

Prelim Contents Page-Adding Text

The next step is to add text to the page to inform which page contains which story this allows the reader to locate the articles they want to read.

To add text you use the text tool which allows the text to be resized and the style to be changed to a more suitable style for the genre of magazine.

Prelim Magazine Contents Page-Editing The Background

The first step of editing my content page is to layer from background which follows the same steps as layering from background on my magazine front cover.

The next step is to blur the background as this will enable the text to stand out rather then be disorientated by the background.

To carry out this task the blur tool is used this allows the background to be blurred so the main image is the focus of the page without actually cutting the background out.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover - Applying Text

The next step is to insert text this is done by using the text tool. This allows you to edit the size font and colour. I used a larger font for the mast head as this stands out this allows the title to stand out to the audience. The main article is in a smaller font as it is not as important a the masthead.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover - Filling The Background

The next step is to fill the background in using the bucket tool. I used a dark red as it follows the colour scheme of my school. Filling the background allows the text to be clear as it does not disorientate the text as it is one colour.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover- Creating A New Layer

The next step is to create a new layer so that it will enable me to add a colour to the background.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover - Removing The Background

The third step in editing my main image is to remove the background as this enables more space to insert text and also allows the text to be clear compared to the text potentially being unclear due to the background disorienting the text.

Prelim Magazine Front Cover - First Layer And Cropping

The first step of editing my main image for my prelim school magazine is to layer it from background which allows other layers to be seen behind the image.

the second step is to crop the image using rule of thirds to ensure the image has enough room to fit text into on the front cover also to decrease the amount of space wasted.
