Inclusive gifts

My magazine will include three free posters. I have decided to include this as my research has shown that often in this genre of magazine free gifts are given to attract the audience. The posters will be of band members from the headlining band.

Pull quote

My magazine will include a pull quote which will be (Machine head return to the uk 'its gonna be heavy') I will use this to entice the reader in to reading more of this magazine and buying this magazine. 

Colour Scheme

The colour scheme of this magazine if black, red and white as these colours are associated with the music genre 'Heavy metal' because of the dark theme of this genre. I think by doing this the magazine genre will be easily recognisable and therefore attract the audience.  

Barcode

The barcode for my magazine will include the price and issue number along side the date and web sight. I have chosen to put this information close together as through the use of my research i have found out the majority of magazines use this technique so that the front cover is nicely organised rather than cluttered and messy. 

Headline

The headline for my magazine will be 'Rhinos From Hell' as this is the band name i have chosen to create for my article. I have chosen this name as it sounds like a metal band and stands out as a headline also because through my research i have learnt that most heavy metal headlines are band names. I have chosen to put the headline just bellow the main image as in my research the headline is set out in this format.

Font

The font for my magazine will be large so that it stands out but will be far smaller than the masthead as the other text is less important. The font will be similar to the masthead due to the consistent house style. The colours will also be the same as the masthead for the reason that these colours are associated with heavy metal. 

My Masthead

The masthead for my magazine will be the largest font as this is the most important part of the front cover. the font will be unique to my magazine so that the magazine is easily recognisable. the colour of the font will be either black and white or black and red so that it stands out also because these colours are related to the heavy metal genre. The masthead will be central towards the top of the page this is so the masthead stands out and will be the first thing the audience see. 

The title of the magazine will be Amplified as this relates to the genre of music as something that is amplified is increased in volume such as an amplifier which is used in this genre of music. I think this has impact due to the single word. I think this will attract the audience.

Best Selection Double Page

My first pic i have chosen because it follows the rules of a good double page image as there is still enough room for text. The image follows the l shape rule allowing text to be clear and the image to no cut across the text.

The next pic is similar to the previous picture and follows the same principle this also allows the image good space for clear text.

The next picture is effective as there is also enough room for text but though there is room the image does not cross over the page although the image will still be effective. I like the image but feel that the space for text is to plain even if the background is left in.

The final image is similar to the previous image but the main focus is situated on the opposite side. The image allows enough space to fit text in but unlike the previous picture. I think the background makes the shot more appealing and would be more interesting than the previous picture as a double page spread.

The first picture for my contents page follows the conventions of a contents page as it leaves space for text and the picture can also be cropped to fit into a single page.

Photo shoot

Today the photo shoot took place I have obtained numerous shots for the front cover, double page spread and contents page. The photo shoot went as planned taking place in an entry and on a field. I have followed the codes and conventions of a heavy metal music magazine with the use of the actors poses showing attitude and power this is useful  as it attracts the audience.

Props and Costumes arrangement

Today the group met up to discus the props and costumes we need to take the photos we decided a leather jacket or jean jacket with a band shirt, jeans and some form of boot would be appropriate for the genre of magazine we are creating. We also decided the props we have chosen yo use a johnny brooks standard guitar with a Gibson les paul studio.

Location

Today me and my actor jordan scouted out locations for our photo shoot. We found three places suitable one being in an entry as this location suits the chosen genre another being a field close to school as this allows me to to easily crop the background out and finally by a large rock which is situated in a field the reason for this is i think the rough edges of the rock would make a good background for my magazine front cover.

 

Planning the photoshoot

Our group came together to discuss when the photo shoot we have planned will take place. we decided thursday the 14th of january would be a suitable day as i have a nose operation the week before that has delayed the photo shoot. Thursday the 14th of january is most suitable day due to all members of our group being free for the full day.  

We have arranged all of the costumes and props for this date so that we are ready to take the shots to a good standard. we also come to a conclusion that the location for our shots will take place in an entry and on a wall by a field because the location is rough which relates to the genre of music magazine I have chosen to create.

Photo shoot

My photo shoot will take place after christmas break in one or a few of my media lessons the reason for this is because it is the most convenient place for the Mise en Scene to take place. I will bring the props and costumes in so that the photo shoot can take place straight away. During the photo shoot i might slightly alter the Mise en Scene to improve the quality of the photos this will be depending on how the photos turn out following the plan i have created. If anything is altered during the shoot i will document the changes in one of my future blogs.

Mise en Scene-Camera Angles

For my main image i will use a close up or a medium close up as all of my style models use this shot. This shot is good as it allows the audience to clearly see the actors facial expressions which can reveal the genre of magazine also through the use of any aspect of Mise en Scene.

Mise en Scene-Props

The props i have chosen to use in the main image consists of a bass guitar and an electric guitar i have chosen these props as they are an essential part to the Heavy Metal genre. I have chosen to include them as this will attract the target audience because they reveal the genre.

 

Mise en Scene-Actors

The main actor for my main images will be Jordan Lloyd a fellow media studies student i have chosen him as my main actor as he is also a fan of the Heavy Metal genre so i think he will already have knowledge on what a good magazine of this genre should include giving me an advantage. 

Mise en Scene-Costumes

The costume for my actors will consist of a leather jacket with jeans and a black top. I have chosen this costume as this follows the genres codes and conventions as leather jackets are related to metal and rock and roll.
